About this Event

Buxton Hill Walks

Come join us for a 'Saturday Special' - a longer walk with a theme and this one is......glorious bog! We're heading up to Combs Moss, a local peatland area and completing a circular walk around the plateau. We will get to see a trig point, the remains of an iron age fort and most importantly we will learn about the peatland restoration that has been taking place in this area and why it's so important.

This walk will start and end at the car park of Buxton Train Station: https://maps.app.goo.gl/f3bStWHZfeCXXHxz7. Please note there is a charge to park here. Plenty of alternative parking is available in the town centre area.

From the train station we will head up through Lightwood, a local nature reserve and out onto the Moss. We will take a circular route, heading east, calling at the trig and iron age fort at Castle Naze before we turn back towards home, taking in 360 views of the High Peak and beyond.

Itinery:

  • Start 945am at Buxton Station car park for briefing, walk to start at 10am.
  • Finish approx 1530pm back at the car park. The finish time will depend on the pace set by the group.
