BUTOH - dance workshop in Berlin
February 25-26, 2023
Moderated: Krzysztof Jerzak (https://www.facebook.com/KokoroKJ)
The practice of opening the body-mind (Butoh dance) 'creates' a space in which the multiplicity and diversity of forms are recognized, acknowledged and embraced. There deep body-mind integration and transformation become possible. In this 'expanded perspective', the body-mind is freed from individual limitations and a dance that is not a dance can manifest.
The Butoh Workshop is addressed to people interested in self-development as well as deepening and broadening their awareness of the body. It will be useful for: dancers, performers, actors, people doing martial arts, yoga etc. as well those interested in bodywork, looking for authentic movement, creativity and attentive presence in the body in relation to others.
In the workshop different methods of working with the body-mind will be used, together creating a coherent whole, including:
– Aikishintaiso (Aikido internal gymnastics),
– Noguchitaiso (Noguchi Michizo gymnastics),
– dancing with/without an image,
– expressing emotions in dance,
– improvisation,
– individual dance, with a partner and in a group,
– meditation
– deep relaxation.
BUTOH
Japanese “modern” dance was created in the 1950s as a result of a search for new forms of expression. Its creators, Tatsumi Hijikata and Kazuo Ohno, negated both their own tradition (Kabuki, Bunraku, Nō) and “opposed” mass culture of the West.
In Butoh dance the body becomes a text, a record of human experience discovered through movement. Butoh creates space for direct and total self-expression.
