Lead artist Jacob Hanshaw and the team will share the story, goals, aspirations, and plans for this artwork to be built and hit the Playa this year!
This is a great opportunity for volunteers of every skill set to get involved! Whether this is your first time volunteering or you're a seasoned maker, we want you to join us. We are looking forward to meeting you and hearing what you want to work on. 💪🎨🧑‍đźŹ

ABOUT CONFESSIONAL ALTER: DEMOOP DU SOUL 🎪🔥
Confessional Alter: Demoop Du Soul will be an art nouveau, altar-shaped circus wagon built to be a refuge to release burdens and find new connections.
Inside are confessional booths which can be entered from either the “Confess” or “Forgive” sides and a reflection space.
Participants entering the “Confess” side are given a choice:
- Open up a panel to speak without anonymity. Total strangers being vulnerable together.
- Pick up a headset to speak through an AI proxy which will distort what they say to make it a “Haiku”, “Sigmund Freud’s interpretation of what you really mean by what you just said”, or similar.
Participants entering the "Forgive" side can listen, relate, discuss, and optionally give an absolution (either pre-written or their own).
The goal is to question what is lost in translation in our digital conversations with underlying themes of play, empathy, and vulnerability.
We're excited to bring this piece to life and try it out together before wheeling it out to Black Rock City!
WHAT CAN I DO?
There's plenty of fun things to do and all levels of experience are welcome! Including none! We love learning.
There will be metalwork, carpentry, upholstery, stained glass or acrylic panels, CNC details, electronics, programming, painting, solar/power systems, lighting, and plenty more!
YOU CAN START NOW!
We're encouraging volunteers to fill in our online form now, giving us (a small team) time to process your submission and reach out to you as needed. For example, we could use some remote help with on-playa event coordination and posting on social media, immediately.
Weekly in-person volunteering will start shortly after this kick-off party, and there will be opportunities for weekdays, weeknights, and weekends.
