About this Event
Burlesque Workshops with Freida Nipples
Join us on Sunday the 26th of May for Burlesque Workshops with the fabulous Freida Nipples! Get ready to shimmy, shake, and sashay your way through the artform of Burlesque at York Pilates People.
Two Workshops are available and you can either do one or both. Both classes are open to absolute beginners, no experience at all is necessary.
Burlesque FUNdamentals with Freida Nipples
Join Freida for a fun class where we delve into the fabulous world of Burlesque! Explore the core aspects of The Art of Burlesque with Freida. Including a short history of the artform with special mentions of some of Freida’s favourite Legends as well as a brief summary of where the industry is at today.
We will then do some basic movement which is the basis for most performances in modern Burlesque which includes strutting, bevels, poses, bumps & grinds & how to use your face as a tool of expression and connection with your audience.
Following this we will learn a short section of basic choreography using opera gloves to the classic track ‘Sway’ by Rosemary Clooney & Perez Prado.
If you can bring your own opera gloves that's great otherwise there will be some provided.
Tease-Ography (like choreography but the emphasis is on the tease!)
Join Freida for this choreography workshop where we will explore removing something in a fun, seductive & playful way. In Burlesque your costume is your prop and this workshop will be about maximising that to the extreme including tips & tricks on how to make the most out of any costume whilst performing. Be that for a lover, a partner, yourself or an audience of adoring fans!
In this workshop you can either use a coat with a belt (think trench coat but whatever you have will work!), dressing gown with a belt (silky ideally but fluffy is fine), with something that makes you feel your best underneath. We will be teasing to the seductive soulful sound of Future Lover by Thee Sacred Souls.
What to wear: from lingerie to leggings, whatever makes you feel good that you can move in will work. If you're unsure leggings or shorts with a comfortable top will work great. Heels or bare feet are fine for both workshops but no socks to avoid injury. Heels with a low height are better (3 inches or less) unless you're very confident in higher.
Depending on how everyone is feeling we may go for a cocktail or mocktail afterwards!
