About this Event
This introductory tutorial is designed for those taking their first steps into the world of fine wine and who are eager to discover the revered white and red wines of Burgundy. Over the course of this immersive session, you will gain a clear understanding of what makes this historic region so celebrated, from its complex terroir to its centuries-old winemaking traditions.
We begin the evening with a sparkling apéritif, setting the tone for a relaxed and engaging exploration. From there, your host will guide you through a structured tasting of white wines from Chablis, showcasing a range of quality levels. This first chapter allows you to get to grips with Burgundy’s hallmark white grape, Chardonnay, while also demystifying the region’s quality hierarchy — a key to navigating Burgundy with confidence.
Once this foundation is in place, we move deeper into the heart of the Côte de Beaune to taste a collection of white wines from the renowned villages of Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet and Meursault. Each of these communes is world-famous for its distinctive expression of Chardonnay, and you will learn how subtle differences in soil, aspect and winemaking shape the character in the glass.
The second half of the tutorial turns to red Burgundy, introducing you to Pinot Noir in its most classical form. You will taste through an illuminating lineup of wines from some of the region’s most storied villages: Volnay, Pommard, Nuits-St-Georges, Chambolle-Musigny and Gevrey-Chambertin. Together, these wines illustrate the breadth of style that Burgundy can offer — from delicate, perfumed and silky to structured, earthy and powerful.
By the end of the session, you will leave with a stronger understanding of Burgundy’s key villages, grape varieties and stylistic signatures, as well as the confidence to explore this extraordinary wine region further. This masterclass is the ideal starting point for anyone curious about the nuances and beauty of Burgundy.
Wines to be tasted: An exact list of the wines to be tasted will be posted closer to the event.
