MCES invites students and parents to take a visible stand against bullying by celebrating Bullying Prevention Week as we come back from track out. Stand Up Speak Out!
This year's MCES Bullying Prevention Month will focus on encouraging students to spread kindness to all through inclusivity and responsibility. Students can participate in dress up days this week and will participate in morning meetings about inclusivity, responsibility, and kindness as well as defining terms of bullying.
We encourage our families to have conversations with their children at home about the importance of treating others the way we want to be treated and how every child has an important role in the prevention of bullying.
It is important to discuss the components of bullying:
- Something that happens over and over again, even after attempts to resolve a conflict.
- Bullying is NOT a small problem - it is a BIG problem and everyone needs help solving it. Get an adult.
- There is a power dynamic that one person is trying to have power over another or wants to isolate someone from a group.
- There is a victim and a bully but, there is also a bystander. This is why we discuss Stand Up/Speak Out. Everyone CAN make a difference. If we SEE something we SAY something!
The schedule of the week for dress-up days is as follows:
Tuesday, October 25th: Put Bullying to Rest! (Pajama Day)
Wednesday, October 26th: Help Everyone Respect Others - Be a Hero, Not a Bully! (Superhero Day)
Thursday, October 27th: Hats Off to Responsible Choices (Favorite Hat Day)
Friday, October 28th: MCES Chooses Kindness Every day! (Wear MCES Colors - Pride Day)
Monday, October 31st: Don’t Judge a Book by its Cover! (Book Character Day)
