Please join us for this community building project led by 2025 PMRCAA Resident Artist Sean Whalen.

Time: 3 - 6 p.m.

Location: Pine Meadow Ranch Center for Arts & Agriculture


Join Multidisciplinary Artist Sean Whalen in this community building sculptural project at Pine Meadow Ranch.

Over three sessions, participants will work together to create a sculptural windbreak on Pine Meadow Ranch property. Working together, participants will gain knowledge and experience using natural and reclaimed materials in an architectural application. Get ready to dig in and build!


Project Outline:

  • June 30th - Session 1: Participants will build the windbreak form using brush.
  • July 1st - Session 2: Participants will plaster the brush form using natural materials.
  • July 7th - Session 3: This is the final session of the project. During this session, participants will seal the windbreak for weathering protection.


This is the second project session, where participants will work together under guidance from Sean to plaster the brush structure using natural and reclaimed materials.



All skill levels welcome!


Optional Materials to bring:

  • Rubber Gloves
  • Work Gloves
  • Water bottle

All other materials will be supplied.

About the Instructor:

Sean Whalen is an artist focused on building sustainable architecture using

clay, wood, and other onsite materials. His work is rooted in community practices,

pulling from long-standing traditions of community-led building, repair, and caretaking.

Sean received his BFA from Kansas City Art Institute, with a focus in Ceramics

and Social Practice.
