About this Event
The adaptation of older buildings is needed to meet the needs of users and occupants today. However, repair, restoration and adaptation need to be done appropriately to ensure the built fabric is not compromised whilst also meeting statutory requirements.
This 1-hour online CPD session will discuss how to demonstrate compliance with Northern Ireland Building Regulations when using alternative materials and methods appropriate to older and historic buildings. The talk will last approximately 45mins, with an opportunity to ask questions in a 15min Q&A.

This webinar is for anyone who works with or cares for older and historic buildings, including construction and architecture professionals, but could also be of benefit to building owners and those responsible for maintenance and repair, who would like to know more about making adaptations to older buildings and statutory compliance.

Trainer Overview:
This online session will be delivered by Joseph Birt, Technical director of FRSNI Ltd. Joseph spent the first 22 years of his career in local authority Building Control, working in various roles including as a specialist Support Officer for the SE group of councils. He has an honours degree in Building Engineering Management and a Post Graduate certificate in Fire Safety Engineering. Joseph has served two terms by ministerial appointment on the Northern Ireland Building Regulations Advisory Committee (NIBRAC) and was an advisor to the Department for Communities by appointment to the Northern Ireland Historic Building Council. He has for the last 7 years been in private practice as the Technical Director at Fire Risk Solutions NI (FRSNI) overseeing their fire engineering services. Joseph is Past President of the Chartered Association of Building Engineers.
