Building of the Kingdom: From Vision to Reality

A Workshop for Church Leaders, Committees, and Visionaries

Is your church facility equipped to support the ministry of the next generation? Whether you are dreaming of a new sanctuary, converting a commercial space, or simply refreshing a tired lobby, the path from "vision" to "completion" is filled with complex decisions.

Join us for the Building of the Kingdom Workshop, a comprehensive half-day event designed to demystify the construction and renovation process. This isn’t just about pouring concrete; it is about stewardship, strategy, and creating spaces where your congregation can thrive.

Why You Should Attend

Building projects are often the largest financial and emotional investment a church will ever make. Missteps in planning can lead to "land-locked" futures or budget crises. We have assembled a team of local architects, general contractors, and financial experts to guide you through every phase of the process.

What You Will Learn

Our agenda is packed with actionable insights, moving from the big picture down to the finer details:

  • Strategic Master Planning: Before laying a single brick, you must look 20 years into the future. This session will guide us on how to phase projects so that what you build today supports—rather than hinders—what you need tomorrow.
  • Assembling Your Team: Design-Bid-Build, CMaR, or Design-Build? If those terms sound confusing, you are not alone. This session will break down the delivery methods to help you choose the model that best protects your church from risk.
  • Counting the Cost: We will tackle the hard truths of budgeting, helping you distinguish between "hard costs" and the often-forgotten "soft costs" and FF&E (Furniture, Fixtures, and Equipment) to prevent mid-project surprises.
  • Design & Innovation: Choose your track! Learn about Adaptive Reuse (turning commercial or retail spaces into worship centers) or dive into Interior Refreshes. The interior session includes a live rendering demonstration, showing how professional design can modernize your space and even highlight revenue streams.
  • The "Soft Skills" of Building: A construction project is a stress test for church unity. We will discuss how to manage congregational expectations, present renderings effectively, and navigate cost-cutting without discouraging your donors.

Fellowship & Networking

The day begins with coffee and pastries and concludes with a catered lunch, giving you ample time to network with other local church leaders who are walking the same path. You will end the day with a dynamic panel discussion on Funding Worship Renovation Projects ensuring you leave not just with a plan, but with the knowledge of how to fund it.

Don’t let the complexities of construction stall your ministry’s vision. Join us to gain the wisdom, connections, and confidence to build the Kingdom effectively.

The Master Plan: Thinking 20 Years Ahead

Info: Before laying a single brick, a church must understand its long-term trajectory to avoid "land-locking" itself or building the wrong facility. This session explains the master planning process, how to phase construction projects, and how to ensure Phase 1 supports rather than hinders Phase 2.

🕑: 09:15 AM - 10:00 AM
Assemble Your Team: Architect, GC, or Design-Build?

Info: There are different delivery methods for construction projects and choosing the wrong one can be disastrous for a volunteer committee. We will explain the differences between Design-Bid-Build, CMaR, and Design-Build, helping churches decide which model offers the best risk protection for their specific situation

🕑: 10:10 AM - 11:00 AM
Breakout #1: Counting the Cost: Feasibility Studies and Budget Realities

Info: This crucial session teaches committees how to determine what they can afford versus what they want. We will distinguish between "hard costs" (construction), "soft costs" (fees/permits), and the often-forgotten "FF&E" (Furniture, Fixtures, and Equipment) to prevent mid-project budget crises.

🕑: 10:10 AM - 11:00 AM
Breakout #2: Adaptive Reuse: Converting Commercial Spaces into Churches

Info: The future of church architecture may not be a new build, but a renovation of commercial real estate. This session explores the unique architectural challenges of converting retail stores, cinemas, or warehouses into houses of worship and achieving the character of a traditional church atmosphere.

🕑: 11:00 AM - 11:45 AM
Breakout #1: Managing Congregational Change and Expectations

Info: A building project is often a stress test for church unity; this session focuses on the "soft skills" of construction management. We will discuss communication strategies, how to present renderings to the congregation, and how to manage the inevitable "value engineering" (cost-cutting) process without discouraging the donors.

🕑: 11:00 AM - 11:45 AM
Breakout #2: Interior Refreshes for Churches

Info: Many church interiors are dated and in need of a refresh that feels renewed, welcoming, and reflective of the congregation’s spirit, while still honoring its faith and history. This session will discuss approaches to updating an aged interior on a budget for those churches not in the financial position to take on a full renovation project and discuss current interior work in worship spaces. As well as a step-by-step live render highlighting additional revenue streams and strategies in design to showcase renovation improvements and the importance of professional design.

🕑: 11:50 AM - 12:30 PM
Panel Discussion: Funding Worship Renovation Projects

Info: Transforming a ministry vision into physical reality requires more than just blueprints; it requires a robust financial foundation. Join us for this panel discussion designed specifically for church leadership, finance committees, and administrators. We have assembled a distinguished group of experts, including senior leadership from top-tier regional banks and specialized capital groups dedicated exclusively to church lending. Our panelists will provide a transparent look at what lenders are currently seeking and how to position your church for the most favorable terms. Whether you are in the early stages of planning a new sanctuary or are ready to secure funding for a major renovation, this session will equip you with the financial literacy and strategic knowledge needed to build for the future without compromising your ministry’s financial health.
