Are you ready to move beyond the headlines and tackle the issues that truly impact our Whangārei whānau? Join us for Building Better Communities, a six-week series of community conversations designed to cut through the political noise and focus on real local solutions. In a world often dominated by loud interest groups, we’re creating a space to amplify the "voice of the rest of us" – the people who want to see a fairer, more equitable society for everyone. These sessions are grounded in the Salvation Army’s 2025 and 2026 "State of the Nation" reports, using fresh data as a springboard for meaningful local action. Each evening features a guest local expert sharing their insights on critical issues, followed by small-group discussions where your perspective is the priority (as a shared supper to finish). We believe that if we want to change the world, we start by listening respectfully and reflecting on how we can build a better community together.
This week our topic is Māori Wellbeing. Our speaker is to be confirmed – we’ll let you know soon.
Building Better Communities meetings are held every Tuesday from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at St John’s Golden Church (149 Kamo Road, Kensington, Whangārei). Whether you’re a lifelong advocate for justice or simply curious about the needs in our community, you are warmly invited to attend. Join us for one, some, or all sessions.
There is no cost to attend, and off street parking is available (turn into the driveway opposite King Street).
