This learning event will cover state regulations regarding building and grounds safety and hazardous materials handling, as outlined in NAC 432A.250 (Building and grounds) and NAC432A.415 (Safety and sanitation of toys and other objects used in play) as of April 2026. Learners will examine and plan for injury prevention.
Training Objectives:
•By the end of this session, learners will identify common hazards throughout the school facility
•By the end of this session, learners will identify procedures for ensuring toy safety
•By the end of this session, learners will identify safe and age-appropriate toys for children of various age groups and developmental levels
•By the end of this session, learners will define safety standards and practices in the infant/toddler environment
•By the end of this session, learners will identify safe practices for preventing poisoning from plants, chemicals, and other materials
•By the end of this session, learners will identify safe storage of bio-contaminants and hazardous materials
•By the end of this session, learners will identify common causes of outdoor injuries
•By the end of this session, learners will identify effective practices for preventing outdoor injuries
•By the end of this session, learners will identify major factors in playground safety, including surfacing, overall design, maintenance, and supervision
•By the end of this session, learners will identify potentially hazardous environmental factors, including plants, insects, and toxic fumes
•By the end of this session, learners will identify important water safety practices
•By the end of this session, learners will identify basic preventative strategies, including transitions, setting limits, avoiding distractions while supervising, and preparing for the unexpected
