Building a Multiverse: Navigating the Global Entertainment Industry

While you don’t need a magic wand to construct a multiverse, you do need a solid   understanding of the global entertainment industry - from beloved media franchises like Pokémon to acclaimed video game adaptation series like The Last of Us. Join Emma Topping, Disney alumna and Brand Guardian for over 300 titles including Brian Jacques' Redwall book series, to explore the boundless potential of your projects, from deal-making to screenwriting, making your own stage production, posters and publishing, and consumer products strategy.

Emma Topping is an Executive Producer for films and series – including the Peter Rabbit feature franchise, a video games Producer, Entertainment Lawyer, and entrepreneur with over 25 years’ experience in the entertainment business. Emma also co-created and now leads the BA (Hons) Film Business & Production degree at Screen and Film School, alongside a wide range of impressive industry projects.

Producers Don’t Wear Suits

“There are many misconceptions about those working in the film business, one of these being that they’re not creative. This couldn't be further from the truth," explains Emma Topping, course leader of our BA (Hons) Film Business & Production degree.

"The outdated notion that film business executives or producers are just 'suits', disconnected from the creative process, is far removed from the reality of those actively shaping the industry in 2024. We are the architects of ideas, the catalysts for action, and the driving force behind the scenes.

“We collaborate, inspire, and, most importantly, bring stories to life - whether it's through film, series, or other mediums. We just happen to understand how to finance, distribute and monetise content, too."

This series aims to demystify the role of film business professionals and producers in 2024, offering insights from industry leaders immersed in the field.
