Building a Landscape with Ann Fletcher Williams

West Wales is a land of wonder. Dramatic coastlines, majestic hills, ancient woodlands, wild mountain-scapes, ever-changing seas, enchanting horizons and big, big skies. There is something that is special for everyone who calls this place home.
But what is it that you really love? Have you ever thought about exactly what it is that makes this landscape special for you? What do you connect with? Do you love getting soaked in the fine Welsh rain, or sandblasted on the beach or floating in a calm sea, or shuffling through autumn leaves in the woods, or clambering around the blue stones on a mountainside?
…..And, what do you love to make your art about? Is it about the feeling of the elements, or the amazing colours and light, or the dramatic shapes? Is it more elemental or is it more visual?
Join me in a series of workshops to explore your authentic landscape through collage, paint and mark-making.
You will have a sketchbook, which you will be able to use during and between sessions to note down ideas and the exciting things you see in the landscape.
You will need to bring with you some source material (perhaps photos, sketches, objects like pebbles, shells or leaves)
Session 1
What do you love?, building your sketchbook sourcebook.
In this session we will start to explore our own personal relationship with the landscape with drawing, mark making and paint.
We will start to fill our books with marks, colours and shapes which speak to us about the landscape.
Session 2
Textures and surface
In this session we will use some of our experiments from week one to start to build our own landscape images. This week we will look at surface and textures and colours using paint, drawing and collage.
Session 3
Shape and contrast
In this session we will continue to build our landscapes using our favourite materials (paint, drawing and/or collage – or all of those!). We will look at using shape and contrasts to create our own unique images.
