Building A Culture Of Reading In Your Classroom

Youth literacy rates are the lowest they’ve been in decades, according to a recent National Public Radio (NPR) report. And while the stats are concerning around the nation, the data closest to home remains particularly frightening.

The San Diego Council on Literacy recently revealed that 46% of third graders throughout the San Diego Unified School District are not currently meeting reading and writing standards, the latest setback for educators who have been helping students to overcome the inherited struggles from the pandemic.

And so, to help ramp up reading in classrooms across America's Finest City, four of the brightest lights in the KidLit community are uniting together in San Diego this Back-to-School Season to help build a culture of reading in the classroom, one book, one story, one child at a time.

We encourage families across San Diego to join us on Saturday, August 3rd (from 12-2PM) at Barnes & Noble Mira Mesa MarketCenter for Building A Culture Of Reading In Your Classroom.

This Back to School-themed event will feature a special panel discussion (moderated by PR From The Heart’s John Masiulionis), where the featured guest authors will be talking about what it means to build a culture of reading in the classroom, how we can do our part to make that more of a reality for our children, how they’re helping to create that reality for kids across San Diego, through the release of their new books, and much more.

• Sharon & Randi Hampson: Award-Winning & Best-Selling Children’s Authors (from the beloved children’s music group, Sharon, Lois & Bram, as seen on Nickelodeon’s Sharon, Lois & Bram’s Elephant Show and TLC’s Skinnamarink TV)

• Brady Smith: Film/Television Actor (as seen on Netflix’s Original Comedy Series, Alexa & Katie), Acclaimed Author, Artist, & Children’s Book Illustrator

Sharon, Randi, Brady, and Ellissa will kick off the event will kick off the event with a special panel discussion. Upon the conclusion of the panel, there will be an interactive Q&A for those in attendance, followed by an author meet & greet, photo-op, and book signing.

EVENT INFORMATION

SEATING: Limited quantity is available and will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis. Reserving a ticket guarantees entrance to the event for the Building A Culture Of Reading In Your Classroom panel discussion, Q&A, and book signing.

Those who have reserved their tickets will be admitted into the event beginning at 11:45AM on the day of the event. Please have a copy of your ticket available (either printed out or on your phone) for check-in.
