About this Event
Join us for this donation-based workshop, led by Sandra, a Peruvian-Dutch ceramist, offering a unique opportunity to learn the art of creating precolumbian whistling vessels while supporting the Ecuador-based nonprofit, Nuestra Tierra Aldea Creativa (Our Earth, Creative Village).
Nuestra Tierra works to conserve the Andean Chocó forest, advocate for women's environmental empowerment, preserve ancestral traditions, and promote healing through art and nature.
What you will learn:
- Intro to Pre-Columbian Whistling Vessels:
Overview of their history, cultural significance, and potential uses.
Creating the Whistling Mechanism: - Step-by-step guidance on crafting the internal system that produces sound with water and/or by blowing air.
- Building a Two-Chambered Whistling Vessel:
Instruction on handbuilding the vessel. - Finishing Tips: Guidance on completing and refining the vessel after the workshop.
Beginners are welcome, but it helps to have some experience with clay:)
