About this Event
Africa is the continent that has least capacity to cope with the negative impacts of climate change. Extreme weather events are becoming more frequent and cyclones, heavy rains, floods, and prolonged droughts are destroying livelihoods across the continent and putting a high number of Africans at risk.
This event will explore the critical role of having a multilateral approach, with the United Nations delivering as one and effectively operationalizing the principles behind the nexus approach, including Humanitarian, Development, and peace, in climate disaster recovery actions. As such, it will draw on several examples of how to operationalize the nexus, including the early recovery work that took place after Cyclone Idai in Zimbabwe, which was coordinated by UNOPS.
The panel will serve to discuss best practices around how early recovery efforts across Africa to build community resilience can help mitigate the worst effects of disasters when they hit.
