Dr. Hamzat Koriko's journey from his native Togo to Grand Forks embodies a fusion of cultures and a dedication to artistic expression that knows no bounds. With a Ph.D. in Educational Foundations, Hamzat brings a wealth of knowledge to his role as an educator at the University of North Dakota. However, his impact extends far beyond the classroom. As a playwright, his works showcase his ability to navigate themes of intercultural competence, diversity, and postcolonialism through performing arts. Hamzat's artistic endeavors have taken him across continents, from France and Togo to Italy and the United States, where he has worked as an actor, director, and storyteller. Beyond his creative pursuits, Hamzat has dedicated over a decade to fostering cultural exchange and appreciation through organizations like the African Arts Arena, which he founded and led from 2010 to 2021. Today, as the CEO of Kori Art, he continues to champion the expression of international arts and cultures, providing a platform for artists from diverse backgrounds to connect and share their heritage—teaching each other and learning from one another. An accomplished Togolese drummer, he loves sharing his drumming style to bring people together and inspire future culture bearers.
