Meet at the QuikTrip station, 1215 Sparta Pike, Lebanon 37090 (Exit 239A from I-40 coming from Nashville) at 8:15 for departure at 8:30! QuikTrip is a well-stocked convenience store (with drinks, snacks, food, restrooms, gasoline...etc!)We'll jump on I-40 for a quick (1 hour, 20 minute) ride up to Crossville. We'll make a "short" stop at the very first Buc-ee's in TN)... Restroom stop, check out the snacks and maybe a souvenir... but, we can't tarry long before heading off on some scenic two lanes and across the plateau.
We'll have lunch at the Wardens Table Restaurant at the Brushy Mountain Prison, then take a little time to explore the prison, and/or the distillery. Yes, there is a distillery there too.
Although a few years ago you could have been sent to prison for making "spirits"!
But soon we will be off on a 44 mile scenic drive around the Devil's Triangle (a road somewhat similar to the Tail of the Dragon but not as busy and more scenic!) around through Oliver Springs (where you can head down to Harriman and I-40)...or finish the triangle loop heading back on the road to Wartburg (the way we came in). It'll take about an hour, 15 minutes to drive the complete loop.
And you could make a visit to the Frozen Head State Park and it's waterfalls or swing thru Oak Ridge while you're in the area!!
It's sure to be a fun day!
