Deepen your appreciation for art and literature. Led by the Associate Curator of Adult & Community Access Programs, this book club invites you to reflect on, react to, and share insights about stories and artworks. Each month features a different title and an exclusive gallery experience. No time to read the book? You’re still welcome to join the fun.Robert Duncan’s Loudmouth is a raw, rollicking coming-of-age novel set in the music-filled 1970s. Read alongside Exploring Jess: Beat Generation Visionary, it invites reflection on art, identity, and the partnership between Duncan and Jess Collins, who were both pivotal figures in the San Francisco Renaissance and Beat Movement. Jess’s collage work and poetic sensibility challenged conventional narratives and embraced layered, nonlinear storytelling. Together, Duncan’s novel and the exhibition offer a compelling dialogue on how artists shape identity through disruption, experimentation, and community.
