Bruneau Dunes State Park Cabins
Our small (11’ 3” square) camper cabins are situated with an excellent view of the dunes and sleeps five on a bunk bed and futon. From the large front porch, you can sit on the swing and gaze out at the dunes. The cabins are furnished with a small table, two small benches, electricity, and an A/C & heating unit. Each cabin has a picnic table and fire ring. Guests must bring their own bedding.
Mid-October through mid-March; water and restroom/shower facilities are not available. Vault toilets are located nearby.
The charge for cabin rental is $80 – $90 per night. Reservations can be made by calling Reserve America at 888-922-6743 or booking online at www.parksandrecreation.idaho.gov

This will be a rain or shine event, unless the weather forecast is extreme. Several of us have already reserved campsites at Bruneau Dunes State Park, see below for link to reservations. If you’d rather not camp, there are a few motels not too, too far away. Info below. You can also drive out for just one of these paint-outs and not stay overnight.
The dates were chosen to take advantage of moonlight, hoping for clear skies. It’ll be a bit chilly.
The plan for Saturday night is to paint near the observatory, which has some covered picnic areas. The observatory restrooms should be open, but I’ll check on that prior to the event.
If the sky is completely overcast on Saturday night, we might discuss an alternative plan of painting nocturnes in the campground of us sitting around a fire, and/or an iconic scene of a tent lit up in the dark. This will be discussed with participants.
The plan for Sunday morning is to paint from near the observatory, or to paint from the visitor parking lot in the Broken Wheel campground. My campsite is across from that parking lot, and I can have a fire going for folks to warm up by. There is an outhouse there as well. There’s a nice long-distance vista of the dunes from that spot.
Yeah, it might be a little chilly, but maybe we should call it “Pain Air” rather than “Plein Air” ;-) The views there are gorgeous no matter what!

The moon will be visible (assuming a clear sky) and about 2/3 full, so I'm hoping it will create some nice definition in the dunes. The paint-out will be rain or shine unless the weather is forecasted to be very bad. There are picnic shelters to paint under if it's raining.
Meeting location within the park will be provided closer to the event, probably near the observatory.

Motor Vehicle Entry Fee $7.00 Unless you have a State Parks Pass.
For day use visitors, the park closes at 10:00 p.m.
If camping at the state park or motelling in Mountain Home this can be combined with the Bruneau Dunes Sunrise Paint-Out on April 6, or do both paint-outs as day trips.
