About this Event
PLEASE NOTE: YOU ARE SIGNING UP FOR ALL 8 CLASSES
Always wanted to learn Gaelic but not sure where to start? We’re running an 8-week block of introductory classes to give you a taster! These will be fun, informal sessions, with a focus on getting you started using some practical Gaelic. Suitable for complete beginners or those who already have a little Gaelic and want to use it with others in the community. Classes will be led by a fluent speaker, supported by enthusiastic learners from the Burgh Halls team.
Overview
The project will introduce Gaelic to new speakers from the local Maryhill area.
Over the course of 8 sessions, participants will learn practical language that can be used in everyday situations.
Learning a new language can sometimes feel intimidating so sessions will be more informal than a typical class structure, with a focus on building vocabulary around participant interests. Topics in later weeks will be tailored to the group.
Grammar concepts will be taught through practical examples rather than worksheets.
Outcomes
By the end of the 8-week block, participants will be able to introduce themselves and understand when others introduce themselves.
They will be able to order a drink and snack at the MHBT café.
They will be able to have a simple conversation around one or two subjects that interest them.
They will have taken part in a house ceilidh.
Participants will know simple sentence structures that can be repurposed and developed as more vocabulary is gained.
The dates for the first block are:
- Friday 1st May
- Friday 8th May
- Friday 15th May
- Friday 22nd May
