Bring your lunch and learn! This month, John Klintworth will be presenting "Civil War Memory and Celebration in Kearney."Founded less than a decade after the Civil War, Kearney attracted veterans seeking opportunity. Annual remembrances and celebrations of local Civil War veterans continued through the early 1900s. This talk will explore the history of Kearney's Civil War celebrations and veterans' events, including the enormous 1888 Grand Army of the Republic reunion. It will also highlight later commemorations, like the dedication of the city's familiar Civil War monument in 1910.
