About this Event

Join us each month as we delve into the subversive world of weird fiction. For February, we will be discussing Earthlings by Sayaka Murata. From the bestselling author of Convenience Store Woman comes a wild and unsettling story about alienation and not fitting in.

About the book:

Natsuki grew up believing that she was an alien, along with her cousin Yuu. Now an ostensibly ‘normal’ adult, Natsuki flees her mundane life to reconnect with her cousin in the mountains after years apart, where they will explore alternative ways to life.

Content warning: incest, sexual violence towards children, child abuse, cannibalism

About the author:

Sayaka Murata is one of the most celebrated of the new generation of Japanese writers. She has won not only the prestigious Akutagawa Prize, but the Gunzo, Noma, and Mishima Yukio Prizes as well.
