Musical Theatre University and The Foundation For Palm Springs Unified School Districtwill present the second annual BROADWAY LEGACY AWARDS, honoring Broadway composers, lyricist and librettists, on Tuesday, April 14 on the stage of the Richards Center For The Arts at Palm Springs High School. This year's LEGACY AWARD will be presented to Tony Award Winning Composer/Lyricist Team Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty whose musicals include Ragtime, Seussical, Once On This Island, A Man Of No Importance and My Favorite Year. Last year's LEGACY AWARD was presented to Tony Award winning lyricist, David Zippel.
The evening will include a concert reading of one of their funniest musicals — LUCKY STIFF — which will be performed by a cast of celebrated Broadway Veterans and students of Musical Theatre University. The event will be catered by WIllie Rhine and Albert Gonzelez of Eight4Nine.
Sal Mistretta starred in multiple Broadway productions including Sweeney Todd, as Signor Pirelli, opposite Angela Lansbury and George Hearn, and Evita, as Magaldi, opposite Patti Lupone and Loni Ackerman. He was a member of the MTU Faculty for eight years. After his passing, a scholarship was established in his name to award monies to talented MTU students, upon graduation, to further their higher education in pursuit of careers in professional theatre.
