About this Event
The Rhythm Method string quartet is delighted to present the 7th annual Broad Statements on Saturday, May 30 at the cell theatre in Manhattan from 2-10:30pm. Broad Statements is a free annual festival curated by The Rhythm Method in celebration of music by women, non-binary, and gender diverse people across a wide range of styles in NYC’s most eclectic, thriving new music scenes.
This year’s festival, the first marathon version of the event, features a family-friendly graphic score workshop for kids 4 and up by Nicolee Kuester, and performances by genre-defying violist-songwriter Kayla Williams; experimental sax/voice duo Erin Rogers and Gelsey Bell; cantora, songwriter, and community artist Juana Luna; composer/vocalist/gayageum player DoYeon Kim; and contemporary feminist string quartet The Rhythm Method. To close out the event, DoYeon Kim and The Rhythm Method will present a preview of Kim’s forthcoming large-scale work, ‘Embrace of the Ethereal’ ahead of that work’s official 2027 premiere.

Skylighght is the duo project of vocalist Gelsey Bell and saxophonist Erin Rogers, who have worked together for 15+ years as part of the new music collective thingNY. They cultivate a minimalist music constructed upon the organic acoustic vibrations of interlaced resonances and a mutual performer sensitivity.

“Embrace of the Ethereal,” a new work for string quartet and gayageum by DoYeon Kim, written for The Rhythm Method, explores the intimate connection between human emotion and musical expression. This concert offers an early preview of the piece ahead of its official 2027 premiere.
This is going to be one of our most exciting Broad Statements events ever, and we can't wait to share all this new music with you. As always (as of the past few years), Broad Statements is a free event, and we'll offer some light snacks and drinks on a pay-what-you-can donation basis.
