Join us for #BRL88 Volunteer Appreciation Screening and Community Panel Discussion – “Telling Our Story” at the Grove Hall Branch of the Boston Public Library.

We are celebrating the volunteers, neighbors, and partners who are helping keep Boston’s stories alive with a special community screening of

🎬 Redline Narratives: The Lost Cultural Hubs of Boston
(Official Selection – Roxbury International Film Festival & Access Film Festival)

This Afrimerican Academy documentary traces how redlining, highways, and “urban renewal” reshaped Boston’s neighborhoods and erased many African American and multicultural cultural hubs. It also lifts up the people and places that resisted disappearance and are rebuilding community today.

After the film, stay for a live panel conversation on:

  • How can volunteers help “tell our story” in a truthful and powerful way?
  • What histories are still missing from the public record?
  • How can we protect cultural artifacts and support community-led projects as Boston moves toward Boston 250?

We’ll also take a moment to thank our BRL88 volunteers and highlight ways you can get involved in future projects, tours, and events.

Who should attend

  • Current and prospective volunteers
  • Neighborhood leaders and organizers
  • Educators, students, and history lovers
  • Anyone interested in Boston history, redlining, and development without displacement
