Brittany Ferries started transporting unweaned calves last year, in the full knowledge that the calves, dependent on milk, cannot be fed during the 18 hour journey. When the loading/unloading times and the journey times to and from the ports are factored in these young and vulnerable animals are being deprived of feed for around 30 hours, sometimes longer. This is cruel and in breach of legislation. Studies have shown that the calves suffer from respiratory illness, dehydration, muscle fatigue, low energy and hypoglycaemia. An audit by the EU Commission in 2022 confirmed these journeys breach legilsation. We informed Brittany Ferries of all of this, they don't care. We need to send them a message, so please join us. These little calves need our help, please be their voice!
