This symposium brings together physicians, allied health professionals and people with lived experience (adults, or parents of affected children) with Tourette syndrome and/or OCD. This will be a full day event that will include plenary presentations and parallel workshops, ending with a reception and research talks.
With three separate learning tracks for each group, participants can tailor their experience based on their needs. This event is accredited by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons and the Canadian Psychological Association for continuing professional development credits. This workshop is sponsored by the Tourette OCD Alberta Network, Tourette Canada, and the SickKids Garry Hurvitz Centre for Brain and Mental Health, and it is operating on a cost-recovery model.
Overall learning objectives
At the end of this workshop, the learner will be able to:
1. Identify the key clinical features of Tourette syndrome
2. Identify the key clinical features of obsessive compulsive disorder
3. Demonstrate knowledge of evidence-based psychological therapies for treatment of Tourette syndrome and obsessive compulsive disorder
4. Demonstrate appropriate skills in initiating and monitoring effectiveness and safety of medical treatment of Tourette syndrome and obsessive compulsive disorder
5. Demonstrate awareness of advanced therapies for Tourette syndrome and obsessive compulsive disorder, including neuromodulation and deep brain stimulation
