About this Event
The launch of this new collaborative project will take place near the end of the two-week Spring Festival (Chinese New Year) period. It will feature performances, object-based storytelling, and panel discussions, in which project participants, museum professionals, and researchers can explore Chinese heritage, identity and belonging.
Alongside this will be a screening of a new short film, featuring powerful testimonies from Chinese community members. In addition, a new digital resource, hosted on the Chinese Welfare Association's website, will highlight their research on significant objects, such as a watercolour painting of ‘Dream of the Red Chamber’ (see the image at the top of the page, © National Museums NI). These testify to longstanding links between China and Northern Ireland.
The project partners are Queen's University Belfast, National Museums NI, the Chinese Welfare Association, and AvilaMedia.
