Bridge Through Troubled Waters explores notions of safety and rest as acts of resistance, which serve as the foundation for this collection of paintings, textiles, sculptures, and installations. Rome creates portals to a utopia, a transformative space.

Ultimately, Bridge Through Troubled Waters offers more than an aesthetic experience; it provides a sanctuary— one that aligns with Audre Lorde’s assertion that “caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare” (A Burst of Light, 1988). In this sacred space, Rome’s work becomes a talisman for hope, healing, and rest, urging viewers to envision a world where individuals thrive in unencumbered freedom.
