Get ready for a front row seat to an honest reflection on otherness, belonging, and honoring human dignity in social services.About this Event
Ashlie, a former sex worker, wrestles with the truths of who she is and where she came from as she forges a new identity of belonging after a lifetime of feeling “other.” As she journeys back to key places from her childhood and time in ‘the game’, she recounts more than memories; she revisits her perspective and how she saw the world, and herself in it. This film explores the “separation between worlds”, the differences in experiences and perspectives that lead to judgment, suspicion, and distance between people.
Ashlie and Christa expound on the lessons learned through Ashlie’s exit journey and the ways each of them saw the other as someone from a completely different world. Together, they both learned how to truly see and honor the other, and how to more fully see themselves. This conversation highlights the often-overlooked component of belonging and identity in someone's healing journey, and the ways in which connecting to our own humanity is the key to fostering empowering relationships. While these lessons are framed against the backdrop of social services, this work is universal and essential, as all of us contend with creating the kind of world we want to live in.
