This event is hosted by two brothers living with eosinophilic esophagitis, or EOE for short. The oldest brother, Lucas, shares his EoE story below:

"I remember one time I had to go to the hospital because my chest was hurting so badly. They had to run EKGs and several tests in case there was something wrong with my heart. Eventually, I got an endoscopy, where they probed my esophagus and found I had EOE. The problem, I believe, with EOE is that they currently have very few options to treat it. The main way to stop it from continuing is to eliminate the seven common food allergens: egg, shellfish, dairy, gluten, peanuts, soy, and fish, so my diet would be very restricted, and about every three months I would need an endoscopy to check if I still have it. Currently, my brother has been responding well to the Medic*tion but still has to get an endoscopy to monitor it every 6 months. However, I, on the other hand, have not had such luck. I responded to treatment, but now it is back. One of the main courses of action the doctor suggested is a procedure to stick a wire down my nose through my mouth and into my stomach to measure certain issues that may be causing the EOE. I must be awake through all this and keep the wire in for nearly 20 hours. While I have severe pain when eating, EOE also has the risk of his esophagus constricting, making it harder for me to eat and even drink, and causing serious health problems later."

Mark your calendars and prepare for a day of creativity and inspiration at Bricks For Hope! All proceeds benefit APFED.
