Bridgewater-Raritan High School Theatre Arts proudly presents The Outsiders, December 4-6, 2025, in the Bridgewater-Raritan High School Auditorium. Adapted by Christopher Sergel from S.E. Hinton’s groundbreaking novel, this coming-of-age drama reveals the tension and humanity within two rival teen groups - the privileged “Socs” and the working-class “Greasers” - in 1960’s Tulsa, Oklahoma. Told through the eyes of Ponyboy Curtis, a sensitive and thoughtful Greaser, the story follows his journey after a violent encounter with a group of Socs changes everything. As he and his best friend Johnny grapple with questions of identity, loyalty, and survival, audiences are reminded that even amid hardship, hope and compassion can bridge deep divides.
“This show resonates just as strongly today as it did when S.E. Hinton first wrote it,” said Heather Diaforli-Day, BRHS Theatre Arts Director. “Most students here at BR read *The Outsiders* at some point during their school years, so these characters and themes are already deeply familiar to them. Our students have found powerful connections between the struggles in this story and the pressures facing teens today.”
