WEYMOUTH MUSEUM – BREWING DEMONSTRATION AND TALKSEver wondered how beer is made? Want to know more about brewing in Weymouth’s history?
Weymouth Museum is holding brewing talks and demonstrations on Thursday 8 January and Saturday 24 January.
At 11am you can discover what ingredients go into beer and how this developed over the years, and at 1.30pm there will be a talk on the history of brewing, especially in Weymouth. These will be led by Julian Herrington, who was a brewer at Devenish until its closure and then at Shepherd Neame in Faversham. Now involved with the Brewing History Society, Julian is a knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide to the art of brewing.
The talks and demonstrations are being run alongside the Museum’s exhibition commemorating the 40 years since the Devenish Brewery in Hope Square brewed its last beer, bringing to an end a centuries old tradition of large-scale brewing in Weymouth. On the closure of the Brewery in 1985, equipment and memorabilia were passed to Weymouth Museum and are on display once more.
The exhibition and events will be at the Weymouth Pop-Up Museum in St Thomas Street, Weymouth.
