Course Description
Our Breastfeeding Peer Support 2 course is our intermediate course, designed for mothers/parents who have breastfed (chestfed, nursed or given human milk to) their own babies, and who have some existing breastfeeding knowledge, such as that gained on our Breastfeeding Peer Support 1 course.
This accredited training programme will enable you to develop the skills and knowledge you will need to provide families with effective emotional and practical breastfeeding peer support, to be able to support mothers and parents in making informed feeding choices and adopting optimal feeding practices and to promote and protect breastfeeding.
You must have your own lived experience of breastfeeding, (chestfeeding, nursing or giving human milk) and have breastfed for a minimum of 4 weeks to attend this course.
Course Content:
- Developing peer support skills.
- Benefits of breastfeeding.
- Benefits of skin to skin contact.
- How to support a mother/parent with positioning and attachment.
- How to support a mother/parent with hand expression.
- Responsive feeding and why responding to babies matters.
- Common breastfeeding problems.
- The UNICEF Baby Friendly Standards.
- The marketing of breastmilk substitutes.
This course is a 6 hour course (2 x 3hr 15min sessions, each with a 15 minute comfort break) After the course there is a short quiz to be completed to pass the course. You will be emailed a link to this at the end of the course.
This course is delivered online by an experienced infant feeding practitioner and trainer from Breastfeeding Together, who are a registered Charity, who as well as having over 10 years’ experience in providing infant feeding support to families, are also well recognised as specialists in delivering breastfeeding and infant feeding related training.
This course is accredited by The Skills and Education Group, which provides an assurance of quality for our learners. The content and quality of our course is audited annually by an independent Skills and Education Group Advisor.
After successful completion of this training course, you will receive a link via email to log in to your Learner Portal to access your Certificate of Achievement, to evidence your learning.
This training can provide you with 6 Continued Professional Development (CPD) points which can be listed on your college /UCAS application or added to your CPD log.
This training offers no guarantee of opportunities for volunteering or paid work as a Breastfeeding Peer Supporter as requirements are variable dependant on area and organisation.
