Breakin' Away

Get an inside look at the production of a documentary on breakdancing with Oliver Arias and BBoy El Niño. In "Breakin' Away", a number of Breakers from across the nation are followed as they manage their personal life while working as full-time Breakin' competitors and artists. At this event El Niño and Oliver, Director and Filmmaker, will offer a sneak peek of the film, discuss their experiences during production and the signifcance of Breaking/Hip-Hop.

BBoy El Niño is a world champion B-boy (breakdancer) with 25 years of experience. Teaching, competing and judging competitions worldwide, he has experience in different realms. Bboy El Niño has appeared in films such as “Step Up 3D” and most recently “In the heights”. He has also performed and toured with artists such as Missy Elliot, Busta Rhymes, 50 Cent & Run DMC. His vision is to continue prospering in this element while simultaneously giving back to the next generation. Focusing on teaching and inner city youth keeps him grounded, despite all his success.

Tikkun Olam Productions:

Tikkun Olam Productions is a non-profit filmmaking collective that produces non-fiction narratives in all digital spaces, including but not limited to: podcasts, feature documentaries, and political campaign advertising for progressive candidates.
Over the past three years, we have worked closely with many of the most relevant and important political candidates, thought leaders, and progressive movements in the US, leading multimedia campaigns to help bolster progressive messaging and create momentum for key causes.

Oliver Arias - Director and Filmmaker he/him
Oliver 'Syde-Sho' Arias is a Dominican-American filmmaker from Providence, RI. He aims to use the power of film to highlight the lives of artists, activists, community members/organizers, and social/political movements.
He prides himself in being able to film amazing storytellers that bring life to the screen as he helps facilitate that process by creating a vulnerable and safe space that allows for the best stories to be told.
