Breadcrumbing to Build SuspenseFrisco Public Library
Frisco, TX / June 6 @ 4-5:30
Join award-winning author of speculative fiction Jalyn Renae Fiske for a free writing class on building suspense. She'll discuss the concept of breadcrumbing clues and delaying information in order to create tension in your writing and suspense in your readers. While ideal for the mystery genre, these skills are versatile for all kinds of fiction writing.
Jalyn Renae Fiske earned her MFA in Creative Writing from Goddard College in 2017. That same year, she began her tenure as Fiction Editor for James Gunn's Ad Astra magazine and was the Editor-in-Chief for The Pitkin Review. Jalyn writes blends of science fiction, fantasy, and horror that explore themes of identity and transformation in a writing style that is lyrical yet unsettling, playful yet haunting. Her work has appeared in The Science Fiction Tarot anthology, Allegory, Wyldblood, Luna Station Quarterly, Fabled Planet, and NewMyths, among others. Her debut short story collection, Side Quest: Stories, was released in November 2024 and has garnered several indie author awards.
