Join David Bleiman and Juliette Lee
for a sweet saunter along the creativity of contrasts
About this Event

The Typewronger sweetie-shop opens at 7pm with free cola cubes,

pear drops, soor plooms and aniseed twists. Sherbet lemons

are de rigeur, as nothing is only bitter or only sweet.

At 7.30 David Bleiman and Juliette Lee will share poems that travel through the

wonder and wreckage of childhood memories, grit and growth in English,

Yiddish and a lemon drop of Scots. This is a play on the creativity of contrasts,

exploring the bittersweet of our lives. At half-time, while sookin a sherbet lemon

or sipping a glass of vino, join in making a sweet sonnet as a collective memory

game.

David Bleiman is a prizewinning poet, writing in English, Scots and

multilingually. His first pamphlet, This Kilt of Many Colours, was praised for

making fresh and unexpected connections between personal, local and global

histories. His first full collection, Tongue Stramash, in Scots, is described as

erudite, tender, on occasions whimsical. For Len Pennie, it is a fascinating

journey through language and memory, inviting us to reimagine how we define

and understand both.

Juliette Lee is an executive coach, podcast host, award-winning speaker and

poet. A former chemical engineer, she lives between Edinburgh and Granada

where she follows her passion for horses, poetry and Spanish language. Her

work has featured in Dreich, The Alchemy Spoon, Shoreline of Infinity and

Untitled. Juliette will include readings from her first, forthcoming collection,

Godmother’s Gifts.
