Brandon Robertson is an Emmy‑nominated upright and electric bassist whose dynamic presence has made him a standout figure in contemporary jazz. Originally from Tampa, Florida, he has built a multifaceted career as a performer, composer, educator, and bandleader. Robertson earned both his Bachelor of Arts in Music and Master of Music in Jazz Performance from Florida State University, where he also performed with the acclaimed FSU Jazz Sextet at Dizzy’s Coca‑Cola Club in New York.
As a bassist, Robertson is known for his warm tone, rhythmic precision, and versatility across small‑group and big‑band settings. He has performed with major jazz figures including members of the Count Basie Orchestra, Jason Marsalis, Marcus Roberts, and Carmen Bradford. His debut album, Bass’d on a True Story, released in 2019, reached #16 on the iTunes Top 200 Jazz chart, showcasing his compositional voice and bandleading style.
Beyond performance, Robertson is a dedicated educator. He serves as Director of Jazz Studies at Florida Gulf Coast University and leads youth jazz orchestras in Southwest Florida. His work in education and performance earned him an Emmy nomination for a documentary featuring the FGCU Jazz Ensemble.
