About this Event
We think that the design industry requires people to be more skilled than ever before and traditional educators are finding it hard to remain relevant. We want to address this by creating a collection of lessons that are led by guest lecturers who specialise in diverse disciplines. It is now time to provide opportunities for professionals to find the knowledge needed for a successful future.
Guest Lecturer
Gina Buckle is the founder of Hoot Copy, a copywriting and brand voice consultancy specialising in fun, humour, and personality. She works with businesses to help them figure out what their authentic definition of fun is, and shows them how they can reflect this consistently across their buyer journey. She believes that the right brand voice should feel fun, authentic, and easy to sustain, as well as being undeniably magnetic to your audience, and that's exactly what she helps her clients to do.

Lesson Outline
This workshop includes theoretical teaching as well as hands on exercises and examples, designed to change the way you think about your uniqueness as a brand, and how you consistently communicate that with the world.
1: What it means to be “unique” as a brand
Lots of businesses like the idea of being unique, and differentiating themselves to the point where they’re effectively in an industry of one. In this section, we’ll look at:
• Why marketing and branding is all about being “unique”
• The things that stop lots of businesses from actually standing out
• Why consistency is so important
Part 2: Let’s find our unique angle in our market: tapping into fun and personality
We’ll explore what you need to get clear on when it comes to defining the personality of your brand, including:
• Where to find the “fun”, even if you’re not a “fun” business
• The foundations you need to have in place in order to use these assets
Part 3: Make it funnier: exploring humour devices we can use in copy and content
Walking through how we actually use language to add humour to our writing, in a way that we can be consistent with, and not feel cringey about.
• What it takes to make something fun, or funny
• Creative thinking and finding connections
• Making sure we’re using the right type of humour
• Final task: Editing a piece of marketing copy to make it more fun and engaging
