From connecting with nature on the search for green wood, to being absorbed into the rhythm of turning or carving: working with wood mindfully can be hugely beneficial for our mental health.Join us for a day of finding wellbeing in woodwork, starting with an outdoor tree identification session, followed by a group lunch and a conversation and demonstration of different woodworking techniques and how they can help us reconnect with our mind and body. You'll have the chance to ask questions, discover new skills, and experience the peaceful, meditative art of woodworking firsthand with others.
Programme of the day:
- 10am-12pm: How to search for green wood: Tree identification walk with Laura Jaap.
- 12-12:30pm: Lunch
- 12:30-2pm: Woodworking and mental health: Group conversation + demonstration / tasters of woodturning, woodcarving and working with power tools.
? This event is part of a series of events to celebrate our first 10 years of sharing (and caring!) for the Edinburgh Tool Library. We're so grateful to have you join us for the celebrations. Here's to continuing to carve out calm through creative connection with nature and wood and community.
ACCESS:
- The first part of the session will be outdoors in the local area and is not guaranteed to be entirely wheelchair accessible.
- Portobello Tool Library is wheelchair accessible and has a hearing loop installed
- Please contact [email protected] if you have any access needs or questions about access for this event.
While this is a fundraising event, we want to remove financial barriers to our 10th birthday events, so to make paid events more accessible we also have a sliding scale donation option, where you can choose what you pay based on your personal circumstances.
