About this Event
The March installment of our Branching Out: Cultivating Urban Canopies series invites you to slow down, breathe deep, and get to know the trees that call Petersburg home. We’ll be gathering at Wilcox Lake Trail on Saturday, March 28, 2026, from 1:30 – 3:00 PM, for a guided “forest bathing” session and native tree identification walk.
What to expect
- Forest bathing: A gentle, meditative stroll that encourages you to engage all your senses and connect with the natural world. Think of it as a mini-retreat that happens under the canopy instead of at a spa.
- Tree identification: Learn how to spot and identify native tree species along the trail. Our guides will show you what makes each tree unique and why native species matter for a healthy urban ecosystem.
- Community connection: You’ll join neighbors who share a passion for greening Petersburg, building tree equity, and cultivating an urban canopy that benefits everyone.
We’ll meet in the parking lot next to Wilcox Lake at 1:20 PM and start walking promptly at 1:30 PM. The event is free to attend; donations are welcome and will support tree stewardship education at the Petersburg Oasis Youth Farm. We recommend bringing a raincoat, walking stick, and water bottle so you can enjoy the afternoon comfortably, rain or shine.
RSVP here on EventBrite to reserve your spot, and feel free to invite a friend who could use a little time under the trees. This series happens on the last Saturday of each month, so mark your calendar and join us as we continue to grow Petersburg’s canopy together.
