📚 Magoffin Home Brown Bag Lecture Series✨ Historic Inscriptions of Hueco Tanks ✨
For centuries, visitors to Hueco Tanks have left their marks. While the site is widely celebrated for its remarkable Indigenous rock art, its story extends far beyond prehistory. More than 600 historic inscriptions carved between 1849 and the 1970s record the movements of gold seekers, stagecoach passengers, Buffalo Soldiers, Texas Rangers, homesteaders, ranchers, and many others who shaped the borderlands.
Join Sebastián Ribas-Normand, Director of the El Paso Museum of Archaeology, for a fascinating look at these inscriptions and what they reveal about the people who passed through this iconic landscape. These names and dates were once dismissed as simple graffiti, but they are now recognized as valuable historical documents that connect Hueco Tanks to the broader story of the American Southwest.
