About this Event
Join us under the stars and carnival lights of The Shipyard for an evening of baroque folk and carousel punk with Boy Meets Pearl and Serena Jost! We'll also have a popup gallery featuring the painterly photography of Jenny Nordstrom.
Queer-fronted and oddly orchestrated, Boy Meets Pearl are musical time travelers bringing their carousel punk cabaret blend of circus waltzes, sea shanties and Victorian Music Hall singalongs into the present day with new original work! Viva la carrousel revolution!
Serena Jost's songs delve into themes of love, joy, finding strength and magic in the everyday and embracing the unexpected. A singer and cellist and long time New Yorker, Serena grew up between The Midwest and Switzerland. She is currently recording her 4th album, following a live solo voice and cello album Up To The Sky, A Bird Will Sing (produced by Anton Fier) and her debut, Closer Than Far. She has performed with many poets, artists and dancers and was an original member of Rasputina. A performance of BLOOM, a choreography of song, is planned for Fall 2026. "Tthe Elizabeth Barrett Browning of avant-classical folk"(Stereo Ember Magazine).
We'll also have a popup gallery featuring the work of visual artist Jenny Nordstrom on display!
The Shipyard is a DIY venue in Silver Spring with a donation door. Donations are split between the musical artists and Abodes Joy, a MD-based nonprofit that trains and empowers diverse learners – women, nonbinary folx, and transgender people – in home repair to build skills, confidence, and community. https://www.abodesjoy.org/
