Full-Day Workshop
Adding PostgreSQL To Your SQL Server Skill Set - Grant Fritchey and Taiob Ali

Organizations are adopting PostgreSQL faster than they're retiring SQL Server. If you manage both now, or soon will, this all-day class cuts the learning curve by showing you exactly where the platforms align and where they diverge.

You'll learn PostgreSQL fundamentals through a SQL Server lens: architecture, queries, administration, tooling, and cloud deployment. Apply your existing expertise immediately instead of starting over.

Who should attend: DBAs, architects, and developers managing SQL Server who are now responsible for PostgreSQL in hybrid environments, cloud adoption, or modernization projects.

Speakers:

Grant Fritchey is a Data Platform MVP and AWS Community Builder with over 30 years’ experience in IT, including time spent in support and development. Grant works with multiple data platforms including SQL Server and PostgreSQL as well as multiple cloud platforms. He has also developed in VB, VB.NET, C#, and Java. Grant writes books for Apress and Simple-Talk. Grant presents at conferences and user groups, large and small, all over the world. He joined Redgate Software as a product advocate in January 2011.

Taiob Ali is a Microsoft Data Platform MVP with 20+ years of experience with SQL Server and Azure data services. While SQL Server remains his primary focus, he is currently learning, using, and teaching PostgreSQL, often describing himself as an accidental PostgreSQL DBA.

He is also exploring practical applications of AI in data platforms, including GitHub Copilot, Copilot agent development, and built‑in AI capabilities in SQL Server. Taiob is a frequent international speaker and an active community organizer.

First Timers

Going to a new event can be intimidating, we get it. We try hard to make everyone feel welcome! Just check in between 8 and 9 am, get your badge and raffle tickets, visit the sponsors, get some coffee, then pick a session and go. If the session is full or just not quite what you wanted, you may quietly leave the room and drop into one of the other concurrent ones.

Tell/Bring a Colleague

If you are attending why not take a minute to let those you work with know about the event and invite them to go with you? Always more fun to go as a team and shared learning is a great way to bring ideas back to the office.

Sponsors

We also have great sponsors who help us offset the costs of putting together this event and who might contact you by email in the future. Visit with them to learn about what they do and maybe win a prize at the end of the day.
