About this Event
On June 7, 2026, the local creative community will gather at Skyloft Galleries for the highly anticipated premiere of Born to Mic, a feature-length documentary dedicated to the raw, resilient, and unmistakable voices of Baltimore’s poets. Directed and executive produced by Chantia “Serenity Tia” Dorsey, the film serves as a permanent cultural record of a movement that has long shaped the city’s identity from the shadows.
Baltimore is a city defined by its grit, and Born to Mic captures how that grit is transformed into art. Moving beyond simple performances, the documentary offers intimate, biographical portraits of literary historians and social commentators who use language to transform their neighborhoods.
"My vision was to shine an overdue spotlight on this often-overlooked culture," says Director Chantia Dorsey. "Baltimore’s voice finds its purest expression in its poets—the storytellers who shape our identity on open mics and in community centers. This is more than a film; it’s an investment in Baltimore’s legacy."
