About this Event
La Cocina de Loisaida: Boricua Breakfast
La Cocina de Loisaida is a monthly in-person cooking class series presented by The Loisaida Center, where longtime Lower East Sider and home cook Maria Bido shares authentic Puerto Rican recipes and traditional cooking techniques.
Each month we explore a new menu inspired by Puerto Rican flavors and ingredients commonly found in neighborhood kitchens. These hands-on classes offer a warm, welcoming environment where participants cook together, learn practical techniques, and enjoy the dishes they prepare as a group.
For this class, we’ve put together a delicious Boricua brunch menu featuring recipes that are simple to prepare and perfect for sharing with friends and family.
Menu
• Cremita – Puerto Rican cornmeal porridge
• Frittata de Plátano Maduro y Chorizo – baked omelette with sweet plantains and chorizo
• Pan con Mantequilla – toasted bread with butter
• Café con Leche – espresso with steamed milk
The class is approximately 2 hours long and includes time to sit down and enjoy the dishes prepared together.
This series is presented in partnership with The Loisaida Center & Trinity Lutheran Church, with a shared mission of preserving and celebrating the culinary traditions of the Lower East Side community. Participants of all ages and skill levels are welcome to join these fun and engaging cooking classes.

We look forward to cooking, sharing, and enjoying these flavors together in the kitchen.
