This collaboration breathes life into classic bluegrass tunes, skillfully blending each member’s unique background to create a sound rooted in tradition yet alive with fresh perspectives.
Band Members:
Chris Baxter (banjo, mandolin, vocals), a founding member of Under the Rocks, hails from British Columbia and brings a rhythm-driven, expressive style to the band. With years of touring experience and a background in folk and gospel, Chris captures the soul of bluegrass, delivering classic tunes with captivating presence and skill.
Nils Loewen (bass), a British Columbia-based multi-instrumentalist, draws on his background as a cellist to bring melodic depth and dynamic groove to the bass. His thoughtful, nuanced playing anchors the band’s sound while staying true to traditional bluegrass rhythms.
Mark Kilianski (guitar, vocals), a founding member of Golden Shoals, is a renowned flatpicker and storyteller with roots spanning Nashville, New Jersey, and Vancouver, BC. With influences from old-time, jazz, and folk, Mark adds driving guitar leads and heartfelt vocals that breathe life into bluegrass classics.
Kian Dye (mandolin, fiddle), a lifelong bluegrass enthusiast and award-winning mandolinist, adds a deep understanding of bluegrass tradition to the group. Raised on the West Coast’s bluegrass scene, Kian’s mastery of the mandolin and fiddle infuses the band’s repertoire with authentic, foot-stomping energy.
Together, the Bordergrass Alliance celebrates bluegrass heritage while blending in their own backgrounds and styles, creating a unique and heartfelt experience for listeners. Their performances capture the spirit of bluegrass with foot-stomping energy, tight harmonies, and instrumental prowess, showcasing both the timelessness and vitality of traditional roots music.
