About this Event
“Wide interpretation of Border Patrol’s responsibilities has national consequences.”
Earlier this year, the documentary “Operation: Return to Sender” from Evident Media, CalMatters and Bellingcat uncovered the blueprint for the increased raids, detentions and deportations happening across the country — including Chicago.
“U.S. Customs and Border Protection claim authority to search vehicles and vessels without a warrant within a reasonable distance from any external boundary of the U.S. … The federal government defines this reasonable distance as 100 miles.”
Since September, “Operation Midway Blitz” has made Chicago the epicenter of the government’s immigration crackdown, and Border Patrol agents are increasingly using force and threatening criminal charges against protesters, civilians and journalists.
Join VC Chicago — in partnership with the Pulitzer Prize-winning newsroom City Bureau and the Emmy award-winning outlet Evident Media — for a screening of “Operation: Return to Sender.” The screening will be followed by a discussion with Evident Media co-founder Kevin Clancy, alongside local reporters and experts, about documenting the issue as video storytellers and filmmakers.
Doors open at 6:30 PM CST with food and refreshments; the screening will start at 7 PM CST.
