Reading Reduces Recidivism...Give the books collecting dust on your shelves a new purpose!The 2020-2021 Junior League of Lynchburg New Member Class invites the community to participate in its Books Behind Bars Book Drive! Studies have shown that reading can reduce the likelihood of inmate reentry (recidivism) by up to 50%. Please help us in reaching our goal of collecting 1,000 books for local inmates by March 31st...here are the “5 Ws” of details!
Who: Anyone can participate! You, your friends, your family, your church, your civic organizations
What: New and gently used books of all genres* for the inmates at the Lynchburg Adult Detention Center *PAPERBACK BOOKS ONLY
When: March 1-31, 2021
Why: To promote literacy, reading, and education behind bars and help break the cycle of recidivism in our community
Where & How: There are two ways you can participate!
1. Drop off books (paperbacks only) at these three locations during the month of March:
Johnson Health Center (320 Federal St, Lynchburg VA 24504 -inside vestibule-)
YWCA (626 Church St, Lynchburg VA, 24504 -front desk-)

Lynchburg Public Library (2315 Memorial Ave, Lynchburg VA, 24501 -across from checkout desk-)
OR drop off with a friendly Junior League of Lynchburg member!
2. Purchase an item off the book drive Amazon wishlist (or Amazon gift card that will be used to buy books) to be sent directly to the J*il:
